$10,000 cash boosts for Australian trainees

A new group of Aussies can now access a cash boost of up to $10,000 if they agree to learn these key skills.

More apprentices and trainees can get a $10,000 cash boost to study certain jobs as the government looks to fill skills shortages.

A further 19 occupations were added to the Australian Apprenticeship Priority List for 2024, including flight attendants, ambulance officers and pharmacy technicians.

The list now includes 130 occupations, all of which have been certified as having a strong current and future demand for skilled workers.

Eligible full-time apprentices in the roles can access up to $10,000 to help with their living costs as they train, while employers can access $15,000 for each apprentice they take on.

Minister for Skills and Training Brendan O’Connor said the new grants will put more Aussies into stable work.

“I want to ensure we are giving every Australian the best opportunity to gain the necessary skills to secure a stable, well-paid and rewarding job, while also developing the skilled workforce our economy needs in priority areas now and into the future,” he said.

“The Australian Apprenticeships Priority List will help boost apprentice and trainee numbers in priority occupations.

“The occupations on the list are based on hard evidence drawn from public and private data that has been analysed by Jobs and Skills Australia.”
