A woman who went viral after throwing hot food in the face of a Chipotle worker has been given the perfect punishment by a court.

Woman throws food at Chipotle worker

A woman who mistreated a fast food worker is about to find out exactly what it’s like working in the industry.

The disgruntled Ohio customer went viral after throwing a burrito bowl in a fast food worker’s face, and now she’s been given an usual punishment.

Rosemary Hayne, 39, was caught on video screaming at a Chipotle worker before hurling the hot food directly in the worker’s face in September.

Hayne was found guilty of assault on November 28.

Judge Timothy Gilligan of Parma Municipal Court said during sentencing: “This is not ‘Real Housewives of Parma.’ This behaviour is not acceptable.

“You didn’t get your burrito bowl the way you like it, and this is how you respond?” she said, the Washington Post reported.

The judge raised some eyebrows by giving Hayne two sentencing options.

Under the first option, Hayne would pay a fine and be jailed for 180 days (with 90 days suspended).

Hayne was given an alternate option to spend 20 hours per week at a fast food restaurant for two months, which would cut her sentence by 60 days.

“Do you want to walk in [the victim’s] shoes for two months and learn how people should treat people, or do you want to do your jail time?” Judge Gilligan asked.

Hayne responded: “I’d like to walk in her shoes.”

Hayne’s lawyer said she “truly regrets her actions and the pain that it caused,” CBS News reports.

‘Mistreated a human being’

The victim was Emily Russell, who was working as a store manager at the time.

Hayne had been screaming at a 17-year-old staff member over a mistake with her order when Ms Russell intervened.

Ms Russell remade the order twice, the Post reports, but Hayne came back a few minutes later and unleashed.

“She started screaming at me. … The next thing I knew she threw the food in my face. I was so embarrassed and in shock,” Ms Russell told the Post.

“I had to work with food in my face and hair for the next four hours after it happened because no one was sent to relieve me.”

She added, “Everyone has bad days, but it should never come to a point where you have to mistreat a human being.”

Ms Russell alleges that Chipotle did not offer appropriate support after the attack and quit about one month later.

However, she received plenty of support from people across the United States.

A GoFundMe page has since raised about $15,000 ($US10,147) for Ms Russell.

“I saw this on YouTube. No one should be treated like that. Merry Christmas and keep smiling!” was one of the many supportive comments on the page.
