Real estate agent’s 8am ‘energising session’

A Sydney real estate agent boss has set the internet alight with his “8am energising session”, but not everyone is a fan.

Energising session: real estate agents 8am dancing ritual

First it was Woolies at 3pm playing ‘Pump it up’, now it’s real estate agents getting their team hyped up with David Guetta at 8am.

Senior property manager at Raine & Horne Maroubra Alex Portnov began an “8am energising session” for his team by dancing to a David Guetta’s “Play Hard” which features Ne-Yo and Akon.

In a video posted to Facebook from Raine & Horne Maroubra’s account, you can see Mr Portnov cheering and dancing to the song.

The camera then pans to the rest of the team, with one lady in a black top being particularly enthusiastic and joining in.

Mr Portnov said the exercise began as an innovative way to get his team excited about the day ahead.

“It’s hard being a property manager and we deal with a lot of negative things through the day,” he said to news.com.au.

“It was just a good way to start the day with a bit of positive energy, and it certainly helps us … to get through the day in a nice happy spirit.”

The staff reportedly enjoy this morning wake up call, and it has worked well for the Maroubra team.

“I think you saw everybody smiling on that video, so everyone’s enjoying it,” Mr Portnov said.

However, not everyone has been so positive about the “energising sessions” as comments on the Facebook post have now been limited due to negative reactions.

“There’s haters out there that obviously thought it was something that was cringey, but mainly we had a lot of positive feedback,” Mr Portnov said.

“The haters will always be haters … if you don’t have anything positive to say and you don’t have a positive energy about it, you can’t watch that video with a bit of a smile on your face, don’t say anything at all.”

Posting the video on Facebook, some called Mr Portnov ‘cringe’ but he said it works well for his team, and will continue doing it into the future.

Mr Portnov said his team have tried to “move with the times” and use social media as a way to “communicate with the public”.

He hopes that the videos say “hey, we’re here, we’re Raine & Horne”.

“This is us … we’re funny people, we’re nice people, and we’re just humans.

“We just want to show the world that we are just normal human beings and … mums and dads and so on.”

It was not all negative, there were some supportive comments and general appreciation for the team’s vibrant social media which tries to “move with the times”.

Raine & Horne Maroubra have over 1.4k followers on their facebook, and over 1.3k likes for their videos which are often fun and innovative.

The whole team pitches into their social strategy during weekly marketing meetings where everyone is able to suggest ideas and watch them come to life.

“If anyone has any creative ideas, they just throw them out there,” Mr Portnov said.

However, this 8am energising session video was a little more spontaneous.

“That particular video … wasn’t part of that meeting,” he said.

“It was just something that we filmed and we said, hey, why not put it out there? It’s a funny video.”

Mr Portnov said he doesn’t know if “we’re going to do more videos about it and put it out in public” due to the critics but added that his team will continue having these energising sessions a couple of days a week as it works for them.

“We’re a tight little bunch here, so we’re all comfortable with one another,” he said.

“We’re not too shy about it”.
