He is due to reappear on July 18.

Police laid the charges after conducting an investigation into allegations the man had been involved in domestic violence while off duty.

The charges come at a time when the Queensland Police Service faces heightened scrutiny over its handling of domestic violence matters.

In May, the state government announced a four-month commission of inquiry into how police handled DV cases.

Another 39-year-old Queensland police officer was suspended for alleged domestic violence breaches on the same day the inquiry started in June.
