Queensland firefighter goes viral after rescuing stuck cat

The story of a Queensland firefighter rescuing a beloved cat from a sticky situation has gone insanely viral - for a rather unexpected reason.

An Aussie firefighter has gone insanely viral after images of him rescuing an escaped cat in Queensland garnered significant attention online.

Gold Coast firefighter Luke Parfumi and his crew attended a home in Nerang at about 7pm on October 28 after recieving a call that a cat was stuck behind the hot water system.

Upon arrival they found Teddy the cat wedged tightly between the wall and the system.

The crew employed the use of a broom handle to help Teddy move up so Mr Parfumi could pull him free.

On Tuesday, the Queensland Fire Department shared details of the rescue mission to its Facebook page, noting that, according to his owner, Teddy has a habit of making “interesting life choices”.

“While well and truly stuck - and not overly impressed about being rescued - a bit of gentle coaxing combined with some clever teamwork and a lot of patience resulted in the crew safely handing him back to his very relieved owner,” the post read.

While it’s always heartwarming to hear a successful pet rescue story, it was the picture attached to the post that really seemed to get hearts pounding.

The three photos showed the rescue process, including a smiling Mr Parfumi holding a recently freed Teddy in his arms.

The post has since gained more than 1400 comments, with the Queensland Fire Department now limiting who can comment on the photos.

The comments all followed a similar theme, with people very impressed by Mr Parfumi’s daring rescue mission.

“Anyone have a cat I can borrow?” one person asked, while another joked they were currently “shoving the neighbour’s cat behind the hot water system”.

“Cue the sudden influx of cats stuck behind hot water systems now,” another said.

“Moving to Nerang and then setting my stuff on fire,” one person commented.

“Do they make house calls in NSW?” another asked, with someone else adding, “I’m in WA, could he come save my cat too?”

Another simply said: “I knew what the comments where going to say before I even saw them.”
