Flight Centre’s Christmas Slip ‘n’ Slide makes waves online
A FAMOUS Brisbane-based company has caused a social media sensation with its Christmas tradition for staff. Google, eat your heart out!
AN INTERNATIONALLY renowned Brisbane company made headlines this week due to its unconventional office Christmas tradition.
Employees at Flight Centre headquarters, in Queen St in Brisbane’s CBD, put their work aside last Friday to take part in the office’s annual Slip ’n’ Slide.
A long black sheet of plastic was stretched along an office aisle, covered in suds and ready for some competition.
Colleagues lined the makeshift Slip ’n’ Slide for a glimpse of the action and the obligatory snaps to post to social media.
A Flight Centre spokeswoman said the company was surprised at the amount of attention their tradition had received.
“It’s not something we ever intended to publicise, but it’s been running for about six years now,” the spokeswoman said.
“Whether you slide or cheer from the sidelines, we consider it a great way to end the year and bring everyone together to celebrate.”
A Reddit user who brought attention to the event anonymously told ninemsn the slide was about 60m long and was tackled by employees of all ranks.
“There are always some great costumes and tactics used, and this year’s competition was won by our Australian GM!” the user by the name of travelator told ninemsn.
“It only lasts a couple of hours but it’s amazingly fun and everyone gets involved.”
The photo, posted on Reddit, has received more than 5000 “upvotes” since being uploaded to the forum two days ago.
They’re not the only travel company with a signature Slip ’n’ Slide, with workers at Ignite Travel constructing a smaller version in their Gold Coast office.
