There are reports the commissioner had attracted scrutiny over personal behaviour, and the Courier-Mailhas reported Mr Quaedvlieg is facing allegations he was involved in an “inappropriate relationship”.

Mr Keenan did not reveal what the investigation concerned.

“There will be no further comment until that process is complete.”

Former Immigration media chief, who has previously clashed with Mr Quaedvlieg, yesterday tweeted the ABF commissioner was being investigated, inviting speculation and urging reporters to investigate.

“When will ABF answer media’s questions about the boss’s behaviour?” he questioned.

Mr Quaedvlieg’s official Twitter account has been dormant since 25 May.

The former Australian Federal Police Officer, who also worked for the Queensland Police Service, is respected within the Turnbull government and has been touted as a frontrunner to head a new homeland-style security agency.
