Homes on Wallaroy Rd, Woollahra don’t change hands often, and when they do they can command top dollar.
Homes on Wallaroy Rd, Woollahra don’t change hands often, and when they do they can command top dollar.
Two years ago 85 Wallaroy Rd sold off-market for $35m, and nearby number 38 — a mansion owned by real estate heavyweight James Dack, which was briefly rented by Hugh Jackman — received offers of $30m in 2023, but was eventually withdrawn from market.
Alex Lyons of Raine & Horne Double Bay, has just listed number 81 with a price guide of $10m.
Lyons, who has sold four homes on the street in recent years, said the street is coveted for good reason.

“Wallaroy Rd is a really popular street, it’s very tightly held and is really quite special,” Lyons said.
“This particular property is on a big flat block, is north facing, which is quite unique for the area and boasts a 28m frontage.
“I’m very excited about it.”
The four-bedroom Woollahra home is scheduled for a March 22 auction.
“It’s a deceased estate, so we’ll run right through to auction,” Lyons added.
Coming to market for the first time in 53 years, Kantara has been the much-loved family home of the Bedingfelds.
The late Dr Dick Bedingfeld previously worked from the Woollahra residence where he lived with his Audrey, who recently passed away.
Prior to that, Sydney barrister Francis Bethune bought the historic home for just 2500 pounds from its first owner, humanitarian aid worker Dame Alice Chisholm.
Also known as Mother Chisholm, Alice provided canteen services for soldiers in Kantara, Egypt and Palestine during World War I.
She was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and then Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 1920 civilian war honours.
Built in 1915, today’s Kantara is an updated four-bedroom residence on 632sq m with a long list of original features still intact from its original timber floorboards to the high ceilings.
The home has a traditional layout with a stately foyer, a formal lounge room with a pretty bay window and dining areas on the entry level, but also benefits from a renovated stone kitchen with modern European appliances and a breakfast bar.
Configured to entertain indoors and out, the contemporary kitchen opens to a courtyard and a resort-style backyard complete with a swimming pool, level lawn and private established gardens.
Upstairs the three bedrooms have built-ins or walk-in wardrobes and all share a large family-friendly bathroom.
On the ground floor another bedroom sits next to a separate study and another full bathroom. Additional features include underuse storage and a lock up garage.
Kantara is within walking distance of Queen St, shops and cafes, as well as Edgecliff Station.
The property is also close to Double Bay, Bondi Junction and popular schools such as Woollahra Public.
