Where to live to make it to 100 years old across Australia
Living in this coastal region in Victoria could be your best bet if you want to make it to your 100th birthday. SEE MORE.
Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale have been named the best Aussie areas for those who want to live to 100.
Simply Nootropics research revealed residents who call the Borough of Queenscliffe home, made up of the two Bellarine Peninsula suburbs, have the strongest chance of becoming centenarians after analysing lifestyle and age data from the latest Census.
Victoria dominated the top 10 list, which assessed every region nationwide, with Buloke, Hindmarsh and West Wimmera areas in sixth, seventh and eighth place, respectively.

In South Australia, Victor Harbor and Orroroo Carrieton also made the list, as did Claremont in Western Australia, and Hunters Hill and Weddin in New South Wales.
The firm’s neuroscientist Dr Brian Ramos said Australia’s blue zones — or where people lived exceptionally long lives on average — shared a number of qualities; peaceful surroundings, a slower pace of life and ample space for outdoor activities.
“It is important for those living in major metropolitan areas to schedule downtime regularly, form community and ensure time is spent in green areas designed to help the brain unwind from the daily stresses life can bring,” Dr Ramos said.
RT Edgar Bellarine Ocean Grove director Brock Grainger said he once sold a Queenscliff home owned by a 105-year-old woman.
“She said it was living on the ocean and the nice sea breeze that contributed to how long she had lived,” he said.
“She was actually moving into … a lifestyle village, not to an aged care (facility).”
PropTrack data shows Queenscliff and Point Lonsdale have median house prices of $1.26m and $1.1235m, respectively.
After moving from country Victoria about 12 years ago, Mr Grainger said it was a very happy and friendly community, more so than other areas, and imagined it was due to suburb’s “relaxed vibes” located by the seaside and strong sense of community.
He added that there’d been an influx of younger families moving into Queenscliff since Covid, with the football club and primary school experiencing substantial growth.
“About six years ago, there was only 13 kids at the school and now … they’re up to sort of 150,” he said.
National Property Buyers director Antony Bucello said since the pandemic, they’d been helping more prospective buyers find homes in lifestyle areas like the Bass Coast and the Bellarine Peninsula.
With Australia’s ageing population, Mr Bucello expected inquiries for coastal abodes to continue despite dropping off since the highs of the pandemic.
