Almost 1000 units changed hands in the city's centre in 12 months - almost 2.5 sales per day.

While apartments in the city spent an average of 100 days on the market, the number of sales makes the CBD the busiest property market in the state.

RP Data statistics show Melbourne's growth areas are recording similar sales turnover.

The RP Data statistics show the outer suburb of Pakenham had the most house sales in the past year, with 713 properties changing hands.

Point Cook, which is 25km from the city centre,  was not far behind, with 680 houses finding buyers.

A list of the state's top 20 areas for the number of property sales reveals a diverse group.

Mildura was Victoria's regional hotspot. The data shows 459 houses sold - more than one every day - in the far northern city.

Traralgon in Gippsland, Shepparton in central Victoria and Warrnambool in the west also made the top-20 list for the number of houses sold.

Areas long known as Melbourne’s unit heartland - the CBD, Southbank, South Yarra and St Kilda - were the big movers for apartment sales.
