Television’s best known real estate expert Andrew Winter is putting his money where his mouth is and kicking off a career as a buyer’s agent.

A veteran of 25 years as a sales agent, Mr Winter has spent much of the last two decades as a TV host on Foxtel’s Selling Houses Australia and Love It Or List It.

In the process the former Gold Logic nominee has become a household name among property lovers. It’s a platform he was keen to expand on and during the pandemic Mr Winter redid his real estate license with a view to returning to the industry.

Given the significant uncertainty in the real estate market across Australia, part due to massive interest rate hikes and a lack of supply, Mr Winter said it was a great time for him to re-enter the market as a transactional agent.

Prior to his time on TV Andrew Winter, also host of Love It Or List It, spent 25 years as a sales agent in real estate.

“I’ve just secured my first sale, it’s a great feeling, it was a very interesting search, we worked really well as a team and it was very rewarding to get the job done,” he said.

“When you have a buyer’s agent it’s like a real estate Personal Assistant – you have someone there who can negotiate on your behalf, who can bid for your at auction. It’s a relationship. You are doing things, looking at things and making decisions together. It’s a team.”

Buyer’s agents have been a feature of real estate in the US for several years, with the phenomenon becoming more popular in Australia in recent years.

Simon Cohen has flown the flag for buyer’s agents in Amazon’s hit series Luxe Listings alongside sales agents Gavin Rubinstein, Monika Tu and D’Leanne Lewis, in the AACTA award nominated show developed by Kyle Sandilands.

“I think the best buyer’s agents are people who have been real estate [sales] agents,” Mr Winter said.

“They have been on the other side, so they know what it is like and it brings a whole different prospective.

“As a good sales agent and a good buyer’s agent you have to have that knocking on the door mentality. You also have to be able to hold your client’s hand as a buyer’s agent. To help them find that perfect family home, have the confidence to commit, to negotiate the right deal and get it done.”
