The Block 2022 Episode 33 recap: ’It looks like a cheap film set’ — Shaynna serves huge sledge at one team
Not a single team fully finishes their rooms this week, where we see relentlessly cheerful Oz snap, and judge Shaynna Blaze savage one team’s effort.
Not a single team fully finishes this week, possibly something to do with the fact they’re trying to complete a hallway (in some cases, two of them), laundry, mudroom and powder room.
So it may be no coincidence that we finally see relentlessly cheerful Oz snap.
Keith and Dan have come to inspect their trouble-plagued mud room, which they’re not going to finish thanks to some dodgy tilers who faked a WorkCover insurance certificate and were thrown off the site.

But Keith and Dan find plenty of other issues, included cabinetry with big gaps between it and the wall, bench tops that are unlevel and a dog bath that doesn’t pass the waterproofing inspection.
When Dan suggests to Oz that they shouldn’t try and cover the mistakes and press on, Oz takes offence.
“You’re at a point now where there’s going to be more and more mistakes. You can’t hide these things,” Dan says.
“This is the best we could do, Dan. I’m fed up with this s**t, honestly, we are doing our best here,” Oz says, storming back into the house to leave Dan standing in the front yard.
“They’ve got to make a decision. Do they slow down and try and rectify it next week, or do they push to the finish line and do more damage to that room?” Dan asks.
In the end, they take the first option, sending their tiler home after he’d worked for 23 hours straight, and admitting defeat on finishing the mudroom and laundry.
But while Omar and Oz’s tiler was happy to work non-stop, Ankur and Sharon are again dealing with builders who leave them to finish the job alone.

Their main builder Liam has gone away for the weekend, and their carpenter Scott doesn’t work Saturdays.
When Keith and Dan notice they’ve left a gaping hole in a set of stairs, Sharon’s in tears again, and Keith and Dan are firmly on her side.
“I’m feeling for you. You’ve been let down by your team,” Keith says.
It’s not the end of the bad news for Sharon. She’s in tears again after judging.
While the judges love her and Ankur’s entrance hall, mudroom and laundry, Shaynna is so scathing about their second hallway, with its black pressed metal panels, quirky feline lamps and dark tones that even Darren and Neale are shocked.
“This is horrible,” she says. “I’m sorry, this makes it feel like a cheap film set and it brings down the other rooms. It feels like you’re going into a theme restaurant.”
She gives the lamps a parting shot (“they’re disgusting”) on the way through.
All the judges love the mudroom though, with its genius dog bath and beautiful styling. All Sharon can remember is the bad bits though.
“We’ve got to focus on the house, the saleability of the house, and not three randoms’ opinions,” she says tearfully.
She’s got good reason to be upset, given all the judges urged her and Ankur to bring back the drama after they presented a boring living and dining room the previous week.
It’s better news for Dylan and Jenny, finally scoring their first room win and unlucky not to get three perfect 10s, let down only by the fact they didn’t finish all the skirting boards in their runway length hallway.
Their breezeway sitting area with epic views, sage cabinetry and great art choices all won plaudits.
Rachel and Ryan are still on track too. They didn’t manage to paint all their doors, and some of their art didn’t work together, but the judges were otherwise happy with a useful built in bench seat in the hallway, with storage for shoes and school bags, fluted panelling and dramatic stepped platform entry.
Tom and Sarah-Jane also do well with their herringbone pattern wooden floor, tartan wallpaper, hallway fireplace and built-in leather dog bed in the mudroom.
After a painful to watch week that really did seem designed to break the contestants, they’re relieved next week all they have to do is a guest bedroom.
