Like a time capsule celebrating a bygone era, this grand Vaucluse home plays homage to the past with much of its 1970s character intact.

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home with double garage at 2 Hopetoun Ave has been home to the Stead family for nearly 50 years, meticulously maintained with original wallpaper, feature floor tiles throughout and a period kitchen with character.

It’s up for October 29 auction with a $15m price guide via Ray White Double Bay principal Elliott Placks in conjunction with Sotheby’s principal Michael Pallier.

Placks says: “This is a beautiful north-facing property with a fantastic floor plan — There is so much potential for someone to create a dream home.”

He said that although a buyer is likely to update the decor, the bones and floorplan of the large three-storey, five-bedroom house are solid.

“We’ve had architect Bruce Stafford come through and do some early sketches of the home,” Placks said.

“He’s envisioned how you might be able to work with the current footprint to get approximately 600sq m of internal living space.

“This is going to be an exciting one to bring to market because people can see how they’ll be able to update and change it, without having to knock it down and rebuild.”
