John Singleton’s old ‘Great Gatsby’ home for sale for $85m
A stunning beachfront, formerly owned by ad guru John Singleton, is Sydney’s latest super listing with $85m hopes - one of the city’s highest asking prices ever.
A beachfront property in Rose Bay shaped like the letter ‘A’ has hit the market and if it achieves its $85m price tag it will be one of the most expensive homes ever sold in Sydney.
The incredible home was formerly owned by famous Sydney adman John Singleton and has a real Great Gatsby ‘champagne and stars’ to it.
The unusually shaped 3000sqm block, owned by the Dan family, offers a wide frontage to the sandy beachfront of Sydney Harbour with unobstructed views over Rose Bay to the city skyline and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
There’s the harboufront pool and even a tennis court.
What’s not included is the Federation house next door — a 1,261sqm block in the centre of the A — which records show was bought by another member of the Dan family for $629,000 in 1986.

There’s no doubting the idyllic setting of the portion up for sale, with the pictures showing a beachfront pool resort-style paradise complete with a gate opening to the sand.
Sales agent Ken Jacobs isn’t commenting on the listing, with the $85m price attributed to industry sources in reports.
The home is listed only on the Forbes Global website and, despite the price, the advertisement suggests the buyer will want to spend considerably more.
The ad reads: “It provides dynamic scope to potentially create a significant compound unencumbered by heritage restrictions.”

It goes on to describe the “panoramic aspect [that] captures Sydney in all its glory … there is, quite simply, nothing like it.”
While the existing dwelling is “of significant proportion”, it’s the size of the land that “allows the option of creating a 21st century refined harbourside residence or family compound”.
Title records show the block for sale is owned by Adrienne Dan, wife the renowned neurosurgeon Professor Noel Dan, whose work inspired random breath testing being introduced to NSW in 1982.
They’ve owned the property for 40 years. Records don’t indicate what they bought it for.
If it achieves $85m, it will be Sydney’s fourth most expensive property. It was once owned by adman John Singleton, who bought it for $418,000 in 1976 and sold it three years later for $840,000.
