Designed by Donald Esplin and Stuart Mould, the building and its classical features like the terrazzo foyer are of high historical significance.
The original building was bought by John O’Brien in 1920 for £11,900 and was opened on October 25, 1923 by Premier Sir George Fuller, with many of the early tenants prominent entrepreneurs, newspaper proprietors and wool brokers of the time.
Classic polished timber floors combine with open-plan living to allow for the perfect combination between the past and the present in 12/123-125 Macquarie St.
There is also a large separate media room and a communal roof terrace with views of the harbour.
Listing agent Ettiene West of Morton-Sydney is taking the property to auction on June 18 with a guide of $1.95 million and said the rarity of the unit had already made it a popular prospect with buyers.
“It’s a building that will always stand out,” Mr West said.
“When buyers see apartments in that building they are drawn in as people want to live there. It is very tightly held as people tend to live there a long time.”

Large windows were a prominent feature of the building when it was built, and these have been maintained in the apartment, while there is security and a house manager.
