Property developer John Gobbo sets new inner west property record
Developer John Gobbo has smashed the inner west property record by more than $2 million after buying a Birchgrove home for an eye-watering sum.
A waterfront Birchgrove property on Wharf Rd has set a new property record after secretly selling for $14.25 million.
The sale price is $2.05 million more than what any residential property in the inner west has ever sold for, according to CoreLogic data.
The former record was set in 2017 by hotelier and race car driver Rod Salmon, who paid $12.2 million for a waterfront home in Drummoyne.

Updated property records reveal John Gobbo is the new owner of the Birchgrove home.
Mr Gobbo is a Sydney property investor and developer known for selling house-and-land packages.
He purchased the property from healthcare boss Jayne Shaw, who only bought the home two years ago. Her $11.75 million purchase in May 2017 was also an inner west record at the time.
The off-market deal was brokered by Ray White Balmain’s Megan Smith, who declined to comment about the sale.
Little is known about the house, but it is believed that it has been extensively renovated under Ms Shaw’s ownership.
Sitting on a 765sqm block, it also features manicured gardens and boating facilities. The property also has views stretching from the Sydney Harbour Bridge to Greenwich.
The result is the latest in a strong year for waterfront sales in the inner west. In May, golfer Craig Parry sold his Abbotsford mansion for almost $10 million, while last month TV renovator Cherie Barber sold her Birchgrove home for $6.6 million.
