Island home closest to Sydney mainland selling for $2 million
There is a Sydney island that is shrugging off its boho image and seeing huge real estate price growth. Now, a home just 400m from the mainland has hit the market.
Mira Vista is Spanish for ‘look at the view’ and when Chuck Bradley found the phrase on a leadlight window at Kimbriki Tip in Sydney he knew he had a name for his island home.
The wide water view looks back to Church Point and over to Ku-ring-gai Chase and onto the active waterway of Pittwater.
“There are always sail boats to see and the comings and goings of the island,” Mr Bradley said.

This renovated property is on perhaps the most convenient part of Scotland Island within steps of the Bells Wharf which is the main public wharf and first ferry stop from Church Point. The island sits within the body of water called Pittwater off the northern beaches of Sydney. Scotland Island is 27km from the Sydney CBD as the crow flies.
“I can get to Church Point in two minutes in my tinnie, it is just 400m,” said Mr Bradley.
Commuting to the mainland is a shared activity on Scotland Island, residents intermingle and this is a close-knit community.
It is also a changing community. Over recent years humble island homes have been replaced with new and large homes capitalising on waterfront positions. Mr Bradley said it is not uncommon for islanders to bowl over a cottage and spend $1 million building a new home.
This trend is reflected in the latest statistics from CoreLogic which shows that the median house price on Scotland Island is up 38 per cent in 12 months, to $1.19 million, the biggest annual growth on the northern beaches.
Mr Bradley and his wife Marijo bought 10 years ago and have raised two sons. They also renovated their home turning it into a Hampton’s style home with a studio in the back garden and a cool boatshed at the water’s edge.
“I am told we have the best kitchen for a party and we certainly like to entertain a lot,” Mr Bradley said.

The couples house, at 85 Richard Rd, Scotland Island is for sale with an asking price of $2 million to $2.1 million. It has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and is on 690sqm of waterfront land with a studio and a boatshed and a shared deepwater jetty.
Agent Murray Bakker, of Upstate, who also lives on the island said the Bradleys home pulls in the sunlight making for a beautiful light-filled interior.
Mrs Bradley uses the studio as a gym but it could equally be used as an Airbnb accommodation as it has a bathroom and balcony.
The main house has large rooms with vaulted ceilings and the home has multiple decks for relaxing and entertaining including a servery window from the kitchen.
The Bradleys are downsizing as their sons live overseas. They have loved Mira Vista — and are taking the leadlight sign with them.
