First home buyers pay big for renovated Petersham terrace

A Petersham terrace that had more than 150 inspections and 10,600 online listing views has sold at auction to first homebuyers.

A three-bedroom Victorian era terrace in Petersham that had 156 inspections over the campaign has sold following a cracking auction.

It fetched $1.511 million after 10 bidders registered, including two first home buyers who scored the keys to 94 Westbourne St.

The result was also more than $211,000 above the price guide.

Raine and Horne Marrickville agent Youseff Chmait said the result capped off a stellar campaign in which 10,600 people viewed the online listing.

“It was popular as it was one of the best looking houses at that price point in the area,” he said.

“I think a lot of people saw it online and were curious as some of the competing properties in this price range may not have been as spruced up as this one.”

Most of the interest in the Westbourne St terrace came from local couples who were looking to upgrade from apartments or buy their first property.

Mr Chmait said the presentation of the property was another factor in generating strong interest over the campaign.

“Taking the time to make the house look presentable is one important step to attract buyers in the current market.”

The three-bedroom property has gas cooking, heating and a backyard with an outdoor entertainment area.

Other features include an outdoor toilet and laundry, attic storage and a study.

It is also within walking distance of Stanmore, Leichhardt and Petersham village precincts as well as bus and train services.
