A burnt-out house that was a fiery crime scene with up to 500 hydroponic cannabis crops discovered inside has sold under the hammer for $30,000 above reserve.

The property at 21 Wyong Rd, Berkeley Vale, was purchased by local brothers who plan to rebuild it and place it back on the market.

Agent Phil Martin from First National The Entrance said he was “shocked” by the auction result, but he was unable to reveal the exact sale price.

“We expected four registered bidders and ended up having seven. The number of inquiries from tradies and renovators was astounding,” he said.

“It really says something about the local reno market — years ago, these types of buyers were all Sydney based.”

Mr Martin said that bidding started at $100,000 and went up in $20,000 lots, with eleven total bids.

On a 544sqm sloping block, the site includes views of Tuggerah Lakes and The Entrance district.

In April 2017, the house was a blazing inferno when police attempted to enter, but were forced back due to the intensity of the flames. They discovered the drugs when the fire was extinguished.

Why The Block has been such a success

Mr Martin said he has now sold three burnt-out properties and they all sold at auction for over the reserve, even in different markets.

“People on the Coast are inspired by local renovators like Kyal and Kara from The Block,” he said.

“You would think it was the pristine properties that sell well, but that’s not the case.”
