Ash Barty’s tennis Nirvana sold for record price

A stunning house that caught the eye of tennis champ Ash Barty has gone for a record price.

What lies ahead for the Australian property market?

A house that Ash Barty scoped out – the only property on the Tweed Heads coastline with a tennis court – has sold for a record $9.45m.

It’s been a strong start to the year for the Tweed Heads region, with the Kingscliff waterfront property – the size of three blocks – setting a region record.

Listing agent Nick Witheriff from LJ Hooker Kingscliff said the property had a lot of interest, with Aussie tennis legend Ash Barty included.

“We had international interest,” he said.

“We also had Ash Barty looking at the property.”

Located at 44-48 North Point Ave with private beach access, it is the only home in the Tweed Heads region with a tennis court.

Although Barty didn’t end up purchasing the property, the successful buyer was from Melbourne with plans to use the property as a holiday home.

“Most people were excited by the truly unique holding in terms of the land and location,” Mr Witheriff said.

“The ability to sub divide into four blocks of beach front real estate was also a big drawcard.”

The property sold in the new year on January 5, almost fetching the owner’s original expectations of $9.5m.

The property passed in at auction in October and negotiations began with two interested parties.

It ended up selling for triple what the owners paid when purchasing the property 12 years ago.

Alongside the champion sized tennis court, the “luxurious” property sits on 1959 sqm of land.

The owners originally purchased in 2011 for $3.15m and have completed extensive renovations on the property including an additional “round house”, a separate circular shaped dwelling connected to the main house that the owners used as a private adults retreat.

The master suite on the top floor has views over the pool and ocean, remote controlled curtains and an ensuite and walk in robe.
