Animal activist Elizabeth Ahlston sells Tempe home prior to auction

Animal activist Elizabeth Ahlston has quickly found a buyer for her inner west home of 20 years, selling to young first homebuyers who had been on the hunt for five years.

The Tempe home of activist Elizabeth Ahlston has sold prior to auction for $1.218 million.

The home at 12 Brooklyn St sold to first homebuyers from Stanmore, who had been on the hunt for five years and came through the first open home.

Selling agent Adrian Tsavalas of McGrath Newtown had two other buyers interested, but not on the same level.

The home had been owned by Ms Ahlston for 20 years and was built in 1914.

Features include pressed metal ceilings, period fireplaces and a large garden at the rear.

The 91-year-old, who was born in Malaysia, has lived across the world, going to school in England and working in countries like Italy and Sweden.

A lifelong vegetarian, the most important thing in her life has always been campaigning against the use of animals in medical experiments.

Tips to keep ahead of the property market

Having always felt very strongly about the issue, Ms Ahlston established Medical Advances Without Animals with a close colleague around eight years ago.

“I have always felt strongly about animals and I was appalled by the industry,” she told the Inner West Courier last week.

“I’m very excited as we have some fantastic scientists and a lot of work is going on.”

It was due to go under the hammer on June 1.
