When it comes to househunting, South Australia is the most searched state in the nation.

The popular beachside pocket of Freshwater is still wanted, but demand has dropped slightly.

These are Australia's most wanted. Homes in leafy streets on the city fringe brimming with character charm.

According to house hunting search engine, realestate.com.au, Adelaide's family-friendly Parkside has once again got the top gong on their Top Sellers' Markets shortlist.

South Australia has maintained a high level of demand from buyers and continues to be the most searched state in Australia.

Demand for property in NSW has also soared, with the Top Sellers' Markets information revealing four of the top ten suburbs are based in the harbour state - an increase from last quarter when it claimed just two of the top ten.

It compares the number of clicks on property listings against the number of available properties in that suburb to arrive at a supply vs. demand ratio.

The website's latest list shows just which Australian suburbs are popular with house hunters:

The South Australian suburb of Parkside has maintained the top position for the last three quarters, while the NSW's beachside Freshwater has seen a slight drop in demand, moving from second to fourth position.

Newcomers to the national top ten this quarter include Mitcham, Thornleigh, St Peters, Burnside, Manly Vale, Cherrybrook and Stafford Heights - while Norwood re-entered the list in second place, after dropping off last quarter.

Cynthia Sajkunovic from LJ Hooker Unley in Adelaide said demand for property in leafy Parkside, and more widely in South Australia, has been blossoming over the last decade.

"We can see that the buyer market in South Australia is growing. Buyer confidence is up and interstate buyers in particular recognise that property in Adelaide is very affordable and offers fantastic value for money. It's a great time for sellers - buyers should aim to get into the market quickly, as property prices will increase with rising demand," she said.

RP Data statistics show that for the 12 months to October 2013, the median house price in Parkside was $610,000, while the unit median was $418,000.

Arthur Charlaftis, general manager of sales and operations at realestate.com.au said the Top Sellers' Markets list indicated strong buyer interest and high rankings on the chart is usually indicative of increased buyer activity in following months.

"Finding the right suburb to suit your needs is just as important as finding the perfect property. The suburb profile pages on realestate.com.au provides buyers with information on the supply and demand in the area, along with median property prices and demographic information. The information aims to help buyers understand the area and assist with the decision making process," Mr Charlaftis said.

"With over 3 million visits to realestate.com.au a month, we can see where people are looking to buy. The Top Sellers' data suggests that for those who own property in the top ranked suburbs, now is a great time to consider listing."
