Surf champ Mick Fanning’s beachfront dream home sold in mega-deal
The three-time world champion surfer has sold his beachfront dream home in a pre-auction wipeout deal.
Surf legend Mick Fanning has scored $16.05m for his beachfront dream home in a pre-auction wipeout deal setting a new benchmark for the southern Gold Coast.
The three-time world champion’s Bilinga property was snapped up by a local family a week before it was scheduled to go under the hammer, becoming the most expensive residential home sold between Coolangatta and Currumbin.
Marketing agent Troy Dowker, of Kollosche, said the mega deal was inked the night before the holiday weekend amid heated interest from multiple parties.
Mr Dowker said the trophy home on a 1,030 sqm lot fronting the sand at 291 Golden Four Dr had attracted 126 inquiries and 28 private inspections since hitting the market last month, including a high volume of interest from overseas.
“We had inquiries from all corners of the world including Europe, South Africa, Brazil and the USA,” Mr Dowker said.
“It was the most international inquiry I’ve ever had on a property, and it really ignited a curiosity on living on the beach on this stretch of the coast that I hadn’t seen before.”
Fanning, who grew up in nearby Coolangatta and built his career carving the areas’s renowned breaks, paid $3.25m for the site in 2011, building the three-storey residence three years later.
Known as Rolling Seas, the rustic Hamptons-inspired estate had been a family home for Fanning and his partner, Breeana Randall, before it was later converted into high-end holiday rental accommodation.
“Sometimes you walk into a house and feel like you can’t touch anything,” Fanning said.
“I wanted people to walk in and feel at home, especially when you go up the stairs and see that view.”
The property has seven bedrooms and five bathrooms, with features including a large entertaining deck with a pool, ground level games room with a bar, yoga studio with sauna, media room, wine cellar, loft bedroom and lift.
There’s also a separate two-storey guest cottage with exposed brickwork and copper pipes, open-plan kitchen and private patio, along with a three-car garage.
Mr Dowker did not disclose the buyer’s identity, but said the property would become their family home.
“We had a hot buyer on the hook who had the desire and the appetite to acquire the property prior to auction, and the sale was squared away late in the day before the Easter Long Weekend,” he said.
“I’ve known the buyer for the best part of 10 years and having that good relationship with them gave the vendor added confidence.
“The buyer had been looking on and off for a few years, waiting for the right opportunity to transact.”

Fanning owns several other Gold Coast properties, and sold a designer Tugun house with an indoor for skate ramp for $3.3m in November 2024 as he streamlines his portfolio.
PropTrack data shows house prices in Bilinga had soared 54.2 per cent over the past 12 months, reaching a median of $2,582,500.
“The sale comfortably surpassed any residential home sold between Currumbin and Coolangatta and is certainly a testament to the location, as well as the vendor and the designers and the product they have achieved,” Mr Dowker said.
“It is an area that has really flourished in the last 10 years.”
