Queensland ‘castle’ with moat on market for $800k

A north Queensland “castle” surrounded by its own moat has hit the market for just $800k, complete with a heated indoor pool.

A north Queensland “castle” surrounded by its own moat has hit the housing market for less than $800,000, complete with an indoor heated pool and more than a dozen farm animals.

“This home is a castle,” a listing for the 21-hectare property on the Bruce Highway reads, introducing the home, which comes with a coat of arms, crenellations and a plaque reading “Creole Castle” on the front.

The house is surrounded by a moat filled with water lilies, where three geese and six ducks play.

The geese and ducks — as well as one cow, six goats and a number of chickens and guinea fowl — are included in the sale.

The chicken have their own “house” on the property, while small, enclosed yards hold the other animals.

Fruit trees, a vegetable garden, small shed for machinery, solar panels and a generator make the property ideal for sustainable living.

The U-shaped, multistorey home, advertised for just $785,000, also boasts a contained outdoor courtyard and a small indoor heated pool.

Selling agent Ross Sorbello of Tully Realty said the one-of-a-kind, “Tudor-inspired” property was tucked away in bushland in Kennedy, a small town of just 136 people between Townsville and Cairns.

“You come in along the driveway, past the moat and into house and there is just such a nice ambience,” he said.

“It’s got this great bush setting and the home sits well back from the road.”

Inside, the four-bedroom, four-bathroom home appears much more like a traditional house.

Upstairs, the master bedroom has a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite, while a second bedroom boasts its own ensuite and garden views.

Two additional bedrooms are accessed from the courtyard and have ensuites and a kitchenette, meaning they can act as private guest rooms with access to the living area.

A long driveway tucks the property away from the Bruce Highway and bushland sprawls outward from the moat.

“Endless tracks in the scrub and special areas tirelessly made by the owners make this a very unique private property to spend time exploring,” Tully Realty said.
