Elon Musk lists LA mansions for sale after pledging to ‘own no house’

Tesla billionaire Elon Musk has listed two multimillion-dollar properties for sale just days after vowing to sell “almost all physical possessions”.

How Elon Musk made his billions

Colourful billionaire Elon Musk has listed several luxury properties for sale just days after publicly promising to sell most of his belongings.

The Tesla and SpaceX founder took to Twitter on Saturday to declare: “I am selling almost all physical possessions. Will own no house.”

He followed it up with one “stipulation” regarding one of his properties, which formerly belonged to Charlie And The Chocolate Factory star Gene Wilder.

“Just one stipulation on sale: I own Gene Wilder’s old house. It cannot be torn down or lose any (of) its soul,” Musk tweeted.

When asked why he was taking such a drastic step, Musk issued a one-word reply: “Freedom.”

Shortly before tweeting his unexpected pledge, Musk claimed Tesla stock was too high – and soon after, $US14 billion ($A21.7 billion) was wiped off its market cap.

Now, it appears the rich-lister – who Forbes estimates has a net worth of $US38.7 billion ($A60 billion) – is remaining true to his word after two of his properties popped up on US real estate website Zillow.

One is a five-bedroom ranch-style home with an asking price of $US9.5 million ($A14.7 million) while the other is a six-bedroom mansion worth $US30 million ($A46.5 million).

Both are in Bel Air in Los Angeles in the US.

According to the real estate listing, the pricier estate is situated on a “private knoll overlooking Bel Air Country Club and the city and ocean beyond”.

The home, built in 1990, boasts “large entertaining spaces, high ceilings and fine finishes” as well as a “large master suite with separate dual baths and closets, family wing, two-storey library, theatre, two-room guest suite, lighted championship tennis court, wine cellar, gym, pool, vast grassy yard and fruit orchard” along with a five-car garage.

The second property is described as an “updated, but carefully preserved unique, quirky and charming ranch style former home of Gene Wilder/Willy Wonka”.

It comes with views of the Bel-Air Country Club Golf Course, with “distant city views” along with five bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms, an oval pool and private guest cottage.

The news comes as Musk welcomed his first child with musician girlfriend Grimes earlier today.

So far, no details have been released, with the billionaire simply tweeting: “Mum & baby all

good.”

Musk has five other children from his first marriage.
