Revealed: Australia’s most-clicked homes on realestate.com.au
Realestate.com.au has revealed the most popular properties this year, including a surprise mix of abandoned houses and jaw dropping mansions.
Dream homes have proven to be hot property throughout 2024, with realestate.com.au’s recently released list of the most clicked on listings for 2024 showcasing the homes that were the most popular online.
Although glamorous images and multimillion dollar price tags appear to be the common theme, not all on the list are exclusive addresses: one derelict house on the market for less than $1 million also made the cut.
Taking out the top spot, an ostentatious mansion on the Gold Coast owned by the notorious tobacco tycoon known as Candyman, attracted close to 160,000 views.
The 13-bedroom waterfront villa on River Cove Pl in Helensvale sits on a vast 5665sq m block and features Queensland’s largest pool.

“Australians love swimming pools and water sport activities. This home’s pool, with its 24-karat gold tiles, is one of the most extravagant in the country,” said listing agent Mark Hadir of Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty.
“The property also offers 175 linear meters of waterfront, providing direct access to deep water and the ocean.”
At the opposite end of the spectrum, second place went to an abandoned and graffitied residence in country Victoria which gained a similar number of views.
The unfinished and dilapidated 14-room house on 5ha is in the town of Cockatoo, 60kms from Melbourne’s CBD.

Described as being in a “very poor state of repair” it is listed with a $900,000 to $990,000 price guide after first appearing on the market at $1.1 million to $1.21 million in May.
Australia’s most expensive street was home to a palatial pad that was NSW’s most viewed home.
Tarocash co-founder Steve Leibowitz and wife Pam are currently selling the popular listing at 69 Wolseley Rd, Point Piper with a $65 million price guide.
A Brisbane home designed by celebrated architect Derek Trebilcock, at 19 Circe St in Hamilton, attracted 81,595 clicks in a year, while a historic estate in Melbourne’s affluent Toorak caught the eye of a similar number of people.
The Toorak house at 12 Lansell Rd was designed by acclaimed Melbourne architect Walter Butler in the Arts and Crafts style and sold within its quoted range of $22 million to $24 million according to a Kay & Burton spokesperson.
Rounding out the top 10, a head-turning home at 8 Border St, Byron Bay was a popular home online thanks to its enviable design by Workroom Design architects. It also offered a grand 2097sq m waterfront position on famous Belongil Beach and cinematic views of the ocean and Cape Byron Lighthouse.

The standout Byron beach house – owned by property developer and director at McGrath, Shane Stollen and his wife Rebecca – is listed at $36.5 million. The listing launched earlier in the year with price hopes higher than $40 million.
“I think it’s got so much attention because of how it’s been presented online. It’s a brand new, architecturally-designed home and there’s nothing more to do,” said selling agent Nick Dunn of McGrath Byron Bay.
“A lot of people have looked at it, but there are only a handful who are buying at this level. Given that the block of land next-door recently sold for $25 million, that fact that we’re only asking $35.5 million is great value. And you don’t have to wait for four years to enjoy it,” Mr Dunn said.
