Would you rent this $300-a-week granny flat in Byron Bay?

A small granny flat in Byron Bay – without its own kitchen or bathroom – has been mocked on social media over its $300-a-week price tag.

Coronavirus: Inside Australia’s renting crisis

The location may be spot on, but social media users have been quick to blast a rental listing after seeing the price being asked for the tiny granny flat which doesn’t have its own kitchen or bathroom.

As Byron Bay becomes Aussie hot property, this furnished studio – with a rental price of $300-a-week – boasts it is a short walk to the popular Clarkes Beach.

The advertisement, which was reposted on Instagram, features images of the small room with a double bed, shelf and a lamp. But with no bathroom or kitchen, the tenant would have to walk 20m to the main house to cook meals or use the bathroom.

“The studio has its own entry and outdoor undercover area,” the ad reads.

“There is a second outdoor toilet at the back of the house for use of the studio.

“The house offers a nice tropical shared outdoor entertaining area with an outdoor shower, fire pit, barbecue, outdoor dining area and lushly landscaped gardens with veg garden.”

The owner states in the ad they are looking for someone “chilled, considerate and clean to join our home. Good vibes only”.

Some social media users were quick to comment on the ad – and its asking price.

“Harry Potter’s room is bigger,” one person wrote.

“Ideal for a hobbit,” wrote another.

“I’ll give ya $70,” wrote another.

Other users thought the joint was “all right” and would pay 12 months rent in advance.
