A US woman is suing her former tenant after making the “highly disturbing discovery” that her home was used to shoot hardcore pornography without her knowledge.

Leah Bassett filed a civil case on Monday in the US District Court in Massachusetts against Canadian adult film company Mile High Distribution Inc. and several individuals including Joshua Spafford, who rented the home in the town of Aquinnah on the swanky island of Martha’s Vineyard in 2014.

Mr Spafford, a videographer formerly employed by porn star Monica Jensen — also known as Nica Noelle — did not disclose that the intended use of the rental was for shooting adult films, according to the case, first reported by The Vineyard Gazette.

Ms Bassett said the filmmakers used “nearly every room of her home for their porn production purposes”, including her bedrooms, sofas, dining room table and laundry room appliances, and moved pieces of art to “aesthetically enhance scenes”.

They even used decorative hand-sewn bedroom pillows designed by Ms Bassett, who said the discovery had caused her emotional and psychological distress requiring treatment by a mental health professional.

Ms Bassett said she first became aware of the issues when her parents, who live up the road, went to check on the house after Mr Spafford vacated in early 2015. The civil case says the pair were “shocked by the deplorable state of condition”.

After checking on the house herself and discovering the damage was more extensive than first thought, she then “independently made the highly disturbing discovery that her personal residence had been used during the leasehold for the commercial production of graphic pornography”.

The case alleges violation of the US Copyright Act due to the use of Ms Bassett’s personally created artworks. She is requesting damages for their continued display in the porn films.

The Vineyard Gazette reports Ms Jensen and Mile High have denied engaging in unfair or deceptive practices and refused Ms Bassett’s monetary demands.
