Sick NRL star Dom Young is struggling to find a new home as he battles a debilitating illness.
One of the stars of the 2023 NRL season, Young is holed up in an English hospital due to a severe sinus infection and will miss all three of England’s end-of-season internationals against Tonga.
After playing a key role in Newcastle Knights’ charge to the NRL finals last season, Young is making a big money off-season move to rivals Sydney Roosters for 2024.

The big problem with that move at the moment? Sydney’s rental and housing crisis.
With many rental markets across the city showing rental vacancy rates of just one per cent, Young and his brother Alex, who is also joining the Roosters in 2024, are struggling to find a place to live.
Dom Young’s brother Alex spoke to the The Daily Telegraph over his anguish about his brother’s poor health and their struggle to find a home in Sydney’s east.
Alex said was “shocked” at the illness which has hospitalised the Roosters star recruit.

Alex had already started house hunting, with the brothers planning on sharing a place.
“It’s a fairytale. I’m looking around Maroubra and we’re hopefully going to live together,” Alex said.

“But it’s been quite challenging finding a place to be honest. There’s a lot of competition out there but hopefully we’ll find a little spot for us both.”
According to realestate.com.au, there are currently 43 properties for rent in Maroubra with two bedrooms or more, 23 of those are two-bedroom units.
Although several of those listed have – Deposit taken – signs slapped across them.
Sydney’s east is so inundated with rental inquiries that according to PropTrack, Eastgardens, just down the road from Maroubra, is the third greatest indemand rental suburb in Greater Sydney after Smithfield and Fairfield West.

Of the Maroubra listings, this ‘absolute beachfront apartment with ocean views’ on Marine Pde, could be a decent choice at $1080 a week through Belle Property. It’s about a 20 minute drive to the Roosters’ training base at Moore Park and their home ground of Allianz Stadium.
This contemporary two-bedder on Bruce Bennetts Place listed for lease for $995 a week via Century 21, that has a gym in the complex, might be another good option.
While this ‘Coastal Oasis in Maroubra with Charming Courtyard’ on Rossiter Ave, Maroubra listed via Olsen Romano for $1000 per week, could be another strong possibility for the brothers to bunk down in and prepare for the start of pre-season training in November.
According to PropTrack, the median unit rent in Maroubra is $700 per week. That’s up a whopping 16.7 per cent over the past 12 months.
