Cheapest rooms near Sydney stations for rent
RENTERS in Sydney, wanting a bargain close to public transport, should be looking to Hurlstone Park or Croydon.
RENTERS in Sydney, wanting a bargain close to public transport, should be looking to Hurlstone Park or Croydon, according to data released from Flatmates.com.au.
The flat-sharing site has revealed the top 10 cheapest train stations to rent a room near within 10km of the CBD, and many offer average room rents below the Sydney metro average of $289 per week.
Hurlstone Park, just seven stops from Central Station, topped the list as the cheapest to rent with rooms averaging just $247 per week.
Rooms near Croydon Station ranked second cheapest — at $248 per week — offering sharers a handy nine stop commute to the city.
Flatmates.com.au CEO Thomas Clement said the increased cost of living in Sydney meant people were looking to shared homes as a means to reduce expenses.
“With rental prices and competition for properties in Sydney continuing to rise, it’s not surprising more people are seeking shared accommodation as a way to cut down on rent,” Mr Clement said.
“Proximity to public transport is an important factor when finding a home for many sharers, which can see rooms and rentals close to stations being more expensive than elsewhere.
“The good news is that there are still a number of suburbs within 10 kilometres of the CBD that offer affordable room rents close to a train station, that won’t see sharers sacrificing on commute times or lifestyle options.”
