WA home designer awarded for modern Perth style in Bali
A WA designer has been awarded for bringing a modern Perth design to residential properties in Bali.
A WA designer has taken Perth style savvy all the way to Bali to win a residential design award.
Dane Richardson’s modernistic approach - away from the usual island style - has seen him win a national award for multi-residential design in the Balinese resort precinct of Seminyak.
Judges in the National Building Design Awards heaped praise on the designer for his “exotic vision mastering the climatic and construction challenges”.
Mr Richardson said his design sought to herald a departure from “traditional tropical architecture of thatched roofs and exposed timber in favour of a more modern, sophisticated approach”.
The South-West designer’s creative work has a legion of loyal followers in WA, with his reputation for flair and originality, as some of his previous landmark space-age homes can attest.
Two other WA design houses were winners in this year’s awards, including Mata Design Studio for a Claremont renovation, and Meyer Shircore and Associates Architects for their $5m new addition to Bentley’s Technology Park, with judges pronouncing it the best non-residential design.
The National Association of Building Designers is a new peak body representing WA, Victorian, South Australian and Queensland residential and commercial property designers.
