THE number of approvals for new homes has risen again for the fifth month in a row with Tasmania leading the charge.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics approvals for new homes in Tasmania went up by 1.9 per cent in Tasmania.
Victoria was not far behind with approvals up by 1.7 per cent, South Australia, 0.8 per cent, the ACT 0.5 per cent.
Western Australia approvals rose by 0.4 per cent, and New South Wales just 0.3 per cent.
Approvals dropped in the Northern Territory and Queensland.
While nationally approvals were up the total value actually dropped.
Victoria had the highest value of building approvals, worth $1.520 billion in October, followed by New South Wales with $1.24 billion worth given the green light.
According to the ABS the total value of residential building approvals as at October was $47 billion.
