A $500 million CBD development that includes a five-star hotel and an office tower is a step closer after development approval was granted for the project.

BGC Development’s 480 Hay Street project was given a green light by the City of Perth’s Local Development Assessment Panel.

The project at 480 Hay Street is a $500m development to be anchored by The Westin Perth, a five-star luxury hotel and a 22-storey office tower.

The original proposal by BGC Development was send back to the drawing board after it was rejected by a City of Perth committee.

When it was first put to the City earlier this month, the committee stated that a new strategy was needed to address the “architectural quality” of plans.

Applications have been “lacking architectural quality” and “generally do not demonstrate a finesse, expertise or mastery of design”, members said.
