Australia’s best homes with backyard tennis courts
THE Hopman Cup is over, but the Australian Open is about to take centre court. Here’s the best homes for true tennis fans looking to play all year round.
Keen sports fans attention has been focused Down Under this month as international tennis moves from Perth and Brisbane to Melbourne on Monday for the Australian Open.
While a pool is still considered by many Aussies as a luxury, but one many can afford, having a full-sized championship tennis court down the back is another level of luxe.
Quentin McEwing, director at McEwing Partners in Melbourne said his office gets a lot of inquiries about tennis courts, particularly during the summer months.
“The popularity of tennis courts is similar to swimming pools in summer. Everyone wants to be outside enjoying the sunshine without leaving their backyard,” he said.

AUSTRALIA’S MOST POPULAR HOMES
“Tennis courts are low maintenance and a great addition to the family home. Having a tennis court means families can watch Federer on screen and then go out for a hit right in their backyard,” he said.
Mr McEwing said people are buying properties with tennis courts for social and recreation reasons.
“A large portion of these buyers are families that are interested in tennis but also keen to use this outdoor space for other sports including soccer and football for the kids as well as using it to teach their kids how to ride a bike. Buyers are also interested in this additional space for social events and even weddings,” he said.
“There are so many social opportunities that having a tennis court offers. It’s a great chance to meet your neighbours by inviting them over for a round of tennis.”
So let’s celebrate Australia’s love of tennis with some amazing home grown tennis courts right in our own backyard - well, in someone’s backyard at least.
