NAB scores a home run

NAB was the only major lender to lift its satisfaction rating among household customers in June.

NATIONAL Australia Bank was the only major lender to lift its satisfaction rating among household customers in June, according to the industry's benchmark survey.

Roy Morgan Research shows overall satisfaction with the big four banks dropped again in June, for a fifth consecutive month.

It is down almost 2 per cent since peaking in January at 77.8 per cent.

All of the major banks are down since the start of the year. ANZ has been the hardest hit, with its rating falling more than 5 per cent to 73.2 per cent - its lowest level in five years.

Despite rate cuts in May and June, home loan customers have lower satisfaction levels than other customer groups.

Meanwhile, NAB is set to sign up its one millionth new customer in its retail and business banks in the 17 months since it began its "break up'' campaign to differentiate itself from major rivals.

Head of personal banking Lisa Gray yesterday defended NAB's strategy to grow its mortgage market share by more than twice the industry average.

In a Melbourne speech, Ms Gray said each of the bank's new mortgages was profitable and contributing to its total returns.
