A young couple couldn’t have picked a better part of Belmont to find a home they can improve on.

The three-bedroom Californian bungalow at 26 Seaview Parade occupies a 520sq m block in Belmont’s riverside pocket that’s close to Barwon River parkland and the Macintyre footbridge across to the river end of Pakington St, Newtown.

Wilsons, Geelong agent James Wilson said the couple paid $885,000 for the weatherboard character house after it had been passed in on a genuine bid of $870,000.

“We sold to a younger Geelong couple that is looking to improve it,” he said.

There were plenty of people in the market for a home to make improvements to, he said.

“It was the biggest demographic consistently throughout the campaign.

“It’s a property that’s easily lived in as it is, but most buyers had the focus of how they could further improve it.

“It was a great block, with dual access, front and back, and it’s a pretty sought after little pocket of Belmont,” he said.

“It was the main reason why it generated the interest that it did.”

Street appeal and a riverside position were the starting blocks the three-bedroom house.

The 520sq m east-west facing block has the advantage of rear access and a position close to the High St shopping strip, schools, the Geelong Lawn Tennis Court and the Barwon River.

A classic layout awaits behind the wide front porch, with three bedrooms and a family bathroom positioned off either side of a central hallway.

The main bedroom at the front has a walk-in wardrobe and light-filled ensuite.

Beyond here, the floor plan opens up into a kitchen, dining and living area with double glass door connecting to a large paved patio perfect for outdoor entertaining.

The tiled modern kitchen has stainless-steel cooking appliances and a high bench ideal for hiding clutter and dirty dishes out of sight.

“There had been some really good plans done by the previous owner – who just expanded out of the property and decided not to go ahead with it – which have been useful inspiration for people doing their own investigation on how they further improve that.
