Warburton former jailhouse with holding cell on the market
You don’t have to be a criminal to make this unique piece of Warburton history your new home or B&B.
Lock yourself away at Warburton’s old police house and jail, on the market complete with an original holding cell.
The historic three-bedroom property at 3316 Warburton Highway is believed to date back to the 1940s and served as the town’s police station until the ‘90s.
For the past few decades it’s been used as an investment property by a Warburton local who was drawn to the “out of the box” property, Bell Real Estate’s Rebecca Doolan said.

But after some updates, including a new kitchen, bathroom and outdoor deck area, the former jailhouse is ready for its next inmate.
It’s been listed with a $690,000-$750,000 price guide.
Ms Doolan said the property’s eerie cop shop history made it the “perfect bed and breakfast”.
“It’s one of those properties that makes you think ‘wow if these walls could talk I’m sure there’s plenty of stories’,” Ms Doolan said.
Along with the original holding cell, there’s a utility room and the former office where the sergeant used to sit, which is now a second living area.
The home features original timber floorboards, ornate ceilings, sash windows, period picture rails and window sills.
Ms Doolan said the “right buyer” could divide the property into two or three dwellings, and its prime location added to its potential as a tourism business.
“It backs up to the Warburton trail and it’s really in the heart of town,” she said.
“All the accommodation in Warburton is very booked out at the moment so there would definitely be a demand for it.”
“The town really comes alive on the weekends with visitors.”
The property is for private sale.
