Sunday Creek dream home has man-made beach, lagoon

Enjoying the rural life just an hour from Melbourne doesn’t mean sacrificing the beach at this dream pad that combines the best of both worlds — and the surprises and perks don’t stop there.

Life’s a beach at this rural retreat in central Victoria that’s making a splash on the market.

The swell Sunday Creek property was a little too far from the ocean for owners Alex and Nicole Greco, so they built a resort-style lagoon and beach in their 12.98ha backyard.

And despite the addition, the pair and their twin daughters, Tahlia and Mia, 9, are longing for a sea change, so they’ve listed their quirky home with a $1.2-$1.3m price guide.

Mr Greco designed the four-bedroom house at 250 Smiths Lane, about an hour north of Melbourne, himself, taking inspiration from architecture shows and design magazines.

“For nights, I stayed up drawing sketches of homes perched up on hills,” he said. “Having my own glass company, I wanted to add the beauty of large windows and a glass entrance as this would complement the beautiful views the land has to offer.”

Mr Greco said the pool was his greatest design and building challenge, taking two and a half years to complete.

“As the land is big, a small square pool in the middle would have looked odd. So I went for a resort-style beach pool,” he said.

“We wanted something with a waterfall and a rock feature the kids could jump off.”

The hardest part was sourcing enough sand, he said.

The five-year-old home also boasts a stately home office, a cinema, a glass-encased and temperature-controlled wine cellar, and a spacious dressing room that services all the bedrooms.

Plus, if you want to ditch the beach for the bush, there’s a naturally fed dam brimming with yabbies and fish that’s large enough to paddle a canoe around.

And the surprises don’t stop there.

“The home does come with one more hidden surprise for the owner who will know once he or she purchases,” Mr Greco said.

Ray White Craigieburn’s Trish Orrico and Shayla Spiteri are handling the listing, with the home set to be auctioned on November 28.
