South Geelong’s only real estate listing snapped up at auction
With no plan B to fall back on, first-home buyers targeting South Geelong meant business at the auction of this cute two-bedroom house.
Four bids was all it took to decide the quick-fire battle for the only house on the market in South Geelong.
Scarcity of stock in the city fringe suburb meant no room for mucking around as first-home buyers eyed off the two-bedder at Saturday’s auction.
Hayeswinckle, Newtown agent Michelle Winckle said four groups had registered to bid for the “super cute” weatherboard home at 203 Swanston Street but things moved so quickly only two got the chance to put their hand up.

The property sold to a first-time Geelong buyer for $600,000, after passing the $570,000 reserve on the second bid.
Ms Winckle said the entry-level price tag drove competition for the compact weatherboard house, which was renovated but didn’t have a parking space.
“It was really the supply because it was the only one in South Geelong on the market,” she said.
“A lot of people were trying to compare the house and there was nothing to compare it to.
“It just shows you can auction successfully with what is going on if you’ve got something that is unique, there will always be buyers.”
The compact house on a 346sq m block has an updated open-plan lounge, dining room and kitchen that links to a large rear deck with garden views.
While there’s not even a spot to park the car out the front, the property is within walking distance of South Geelong train station, the Barwon River and the CBD.
