Sellers score as Highton auctions prove a magnet for buyers
The riverside suburb remains a magnet for buyers, with competition at all levels spurring strong sales under the hammer.
A renovation is on the cards after a leafy location attracted three bidders to an old Highton house with treetop views.
Local buyers saw a chance to put their own stamp on the three-bedroom, Mid-Century home at 16 Helena Street.
They paid $750,000 for the 664sq m property, locking in a sought after location that’s within walking distance of Highton Village.

Competition was firing at all levels of the riverside suburb, where a clever renovation project also sold for $1m at auction on the weekend.
Multiple bidders contested the transformed four-bedroom house at 14 Lansbury Crescent, with a young family securing the keys.
Maxwell Collins, Geelong agent Duncan Skene said the tightly held location and north-facing backyard at Helena Street appealed to both first and second-home buyers.
“It’s on a great sized block with well-maintained gardens, but enough to keep your hand in, with a garage you can take a boat through and you’ve got a great back deck that looks back towards Highton Village among the treetops,” Mr Skene said.
Views over Highton on offer from Lansbury Crescent also spurred competitive bidding from buyers at the premium end of the market.
Desbo Building Group’s renovation added more than $300,000 to the value of the split-level house that last sold for $685,000 in 2018.
The floorplan had been reconfigured to create a fourth bedroom with a cool mezzanine level and two rear living zones that link to a large deck.
McGrath, Geelong agent David Cortous said the interior, particularly the ensuite bathroom, wouldn’t have been out of place in a magazine.
“Everything has been considered with this home … it has been built by a builder for a builder,” Mr Cortous said.
