The house was snapped up prior to auction after three buyers emerged with offers well above the $1.45m-$1.55m price range.
Buxton agent Jarrod Leonard said a local family had secured the 1065sq m Newtown hill property for an undisclosed price.,
“The people are going to ideally retain most of the home and just add to it,” he said.
“They’re a local family — they’ve been looking for a long time and they just couldn’t resist the property and the location and what it offers them as a long-term family home.”
Mr Leonard said the house was structurally impeccable but needed a fair bit of work internally.
The ground floors is home to a large entry hall that beautiful timber and solid concrete staircase, a large loungeroom, formal dining room, galley kitchen with original joinery and a laundry.
Upstairs are three bedrooms, two with north-facing view across Geelong to the bay, and a central bathroom.
Mr Leonard said the other bidders were of similar mind to retain Art Deco beauty.
“It was the right market and it will be a home that will be done beautifully and I would love to see it in four or five years and I think they’ll love it forever.”
He said there had been an even split between buyers drawn to the house and those wanting to secure the large L-shaped parcel of land for a premium family home.
The family purchased the neighbours’ backyard at some stage for extra space to create a vegetable patch.
Mr Leonard said the seller was both sad and delighted about the sale.
“It’s been 85 years in the same family but she now can move on and go on with what she wants to do.
“She’s absolutely delighted to be honest that that’s where it’s going to.”
