Scott Thompson: Retired Roo sells Ascot Vale shop conversion
Former North Melbourne defender Scott Thompson has sold his Ascot Vale family pad, after hanging up the boots and moving back to his hometown to coach the Geelong AFLW team.
Ex-Kangaroo Scott Thompson’s Ascot Vale home has hopped off the market after scoring an impressive auction result.
The retired footballer’s landmark home at 38 Kent St changed hands for $2.141 million, which was well above his price hopes.
Alexkarbon director Charles Bongiovanni said there were at least 70 people in the backyard during the auction.

“There were four solid bidders from start to finish,” Mr Bongiovanni said.
“It sold to a young couple with a small child to be their family home.”
He said the impressive sale of the converted butcher’s shop would help the Thompson family find their next home.
“They were really happy with the result and they’ve already moved back to Geelong, which is Scott’s hometown,” he said.
“It’s an opportunity for them to settle into the area and find a property, because they have been renting.”
The 241-game player previously told the Herald Sun he had moved out of the home and back to Geelong with his wife Lauren and three children to become the Geelong AFLW forwards coach.
He retired as a one-club player from North Melbourne last year.
CoreLogic shows the rare converted shopfront previously sold for $1.282 million in 2013.
The Syd Barker medallist said he loved that the character home was “walking distance from schools, coffee shops and the supermarket”.
He also lived next door to fellow ex-North Melbourne defender Michael Firrito, until his former teammate sold his place at 40 Kent St for $1,316,500 in 2017.
“There’s a few other (players) around from North Melbourne, so it was always good to catch up with them at the shops,” Thompson said
The shopfront space had been converted into a living room, which was the footballer’s favourite space to “relax and hang out”.
The Thompson family renovated the property over the years by refurbishing the front of the house and retiling the bathrooms.
Other features of the larger home included a modern open-plan living area, north-facing gardens and six bedrooms.
Mr Bongiovanni said some buyers were interested by the shopfront space, which could be easily converted into a home office.
