Robert Doyle: Former Lord Mayor sells South Melbourne home
Former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has pocketed a high price for his “glorious” South Melbourne home.
Former Melbourne Lord Mayor Robert Doyle has sold his “glorious” South Melbourne terrace for an undisclosed price above expectations.
The elegant Victorian, at 45 Church Street, was listed for $1.85-$2.20m but is understood to have exceeded the top of the range by about $90,000.
Marshall White Port Phillip director Oliver Bruce wouldn’t reveal the owner’s identity or the selling price, but confirmed the home had sold for an “undisclosed” amount.

He said there were three bidders interested in the property at Saturday’s auction.
“They were all young couples, two that were from Melbourne – South Yarra and Port Melbourne – and one from Sydney,” Mr Bruce said.
The three-bedroom, one-bathroom terrace home was described as a blend of “timeless elegance and superb style” and is close to the hustle and bustle of Clarendon St, Albert Park Lake and South Melbourne Market.
Mr Doyle bought the home in 2010 for $1.5m, CoreLogic records indicate, two years into his ten-year tenure as Lord Mayor.
In 2018, Mr Doyle quit as mayor after he was accused of sexual harassment.
A year prior, in 2017, his property was vandalised by homeless activists who threw paint at the terrace home and threatened to do the same at other councillors’ homes.
