Renovated beauty on the cusp of the Paris end of Pakington St
Newtown homeowners took a tired home dubbed a blank canvas when last offered for sale and turned it into a chic inner city residence now selling at more than double the previous price.
Here’s a house that goes to show what imagination and elbow grease can do.
An original timber period home near the river end of Pakington St hit the market this week revealing to buyers for the first time the renovation that turned it from a tired blank canvas to inner city chic.
McGrath, Geelong agent Shaun Carroll has listed the three-bedroom, double-fronted house at 372 Pakington St, Newtown with price hopes from $1m to $1.1m.

Modern living has been injected into the home in the renovation that highlighted the home’s previously hidden character traits such as timber floorboards, exposed brickwork and high ceilings.
Bespoke timber wall panelling has added to the charm in the home that now features an open-plan living space where the kitchen showcases as high end 1200mm Smeg cooker, an integrated dishwasher, timber benchtops and a bi-fold servery window opening to the back yard.
The home’s asking price is more than double the $420,000 the owners paid in 2015 for the house that was presented in original condition and offered as an opportunity to bring it back to its former glory.
“Over the past 10 years he’s just been renovating room by room,” Mr Carroll said.
“Internally they’ve retained the character of it with all the exposed brickwork with the fireplaces and it’s really nice where they put the oven.
“They’ve added to it as well, such as the wood panelling in the bedrooms.
“At the back they did knock a wall out and open that up, so they’ve got that kitchen area as well and they’ve got the studio at the back too, which is too good as there’s a lot of people what work from home these days.”
Mr Carroll said the home now matched the Pakington St position where residents could enjoy the lifestyle sitting at their doorstep.
“The owners said they always go for walks down to the river and have breakfast and lunches along Pakington St,” he said.
Mr Carroll said he expects young buyers and professional couples to be in the mix for the home.
“I can even see someone who’s maybe downsizing that still want to live in the area and enjoy the Pakington St lifestyle.”
