Passing train line no deterrent as North Geelong home beats price hopes by $58K
The passing train line was no deterrent as buyers lined up for a chance to get their hands on a partially-renovated character home near Pakington St.
A NEWLYWED couple celebrated another major life achievement after purchasing their first home at a North Geelong auction on Saturday.
The Melbourne pair paid $618,000 for the three-bedroom weatherboard house at 12 Stubbs Ave, which is just moments from Pakington St.
The prospect of living beside a train line didn’t dampen prospective buyers’ enthusiasm for the partially-renovated house on a 458sq m block.

It sold for $58,000 above expectation after competition from two bidders.
Newtown agent Graeme Taylor said several other interested parties didn’t get the chance to bid after a strong opening offer.
“The buyers were a really delightful young couple from Melbourne,” Mr Taylor said.
“They’re first-home buyers who got married in December or November and they were absolutely ticked pink about having their own home.
“They can’t wait to put their own mark on it.”
He said the nearby North Geelong train station was a big drawcard for the couple, who would be commuting to Melbourne to work.
The agency deliberately held open for inspections when trains were scheduled to pass the back fence so buyers knew what to expect.
The house had been rewired, reroofed and restumped in the past 10 years, providing a structurally sound foundation for further renovation.
The floorplan includes a loungeroom, updated kitchen/meals area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and a separate bungalow.
