Mt Eliza Arts and Crafts residence transformed into dream home
This enchanting residence began its life 86 years ago as the “small thatched-roof house” of a World War I officer. It’s now seeking a multimillion-dollar sale after being totally transformed.
A renovation has reinvigorated this 86-year-old Arts and Crafts residence, which began its life as the “small thatched-roof house” of a Welsh officer sent to Australia to recover from World War I.
RT Edgar Mt Eliza’s Ruby Smith said the property’s owners of the past 17 years gutted and sympathetically renovated the house, even using its original stonework in outdoor spaces.
They’ve now listed 60-62 Canadian Bay Rd, Mt Eliza for private sale with a $3.9-$4.2 million price guide.

Vaulted ceilings, engineered timber floors and crisp white walls characterise the classic interior.
The Caesarstone Calacatta kitchen has Miele appliances, a cast-iron AGA stove and a butler’s pantry.
Ms Smith said this had been the vendors’ favourite part of the house, along with its seamless “indoor-outdoor flow”.
The top-storey main bedroom has an ensuite, walk-in wardrobe and private balcony offering bay views.
The landscaped 1680sq m grounds spread across two titles and feature two alfresco zones, a pool, spa and a dry stone fireplace.
There’s also a chicken coop, vegie planter boxes and established fruit trees.
The next owners will also have access to a 1.6ha reserve shared by a group of neighbours.
“All the owners get together twice a year for a working bee to keep it maintained,” Ms Smith said.
