Luke Currie: Jockey lists Essendon home of 17 years
Luke Currie is hoping to follow up his “biggest win” with the sale of his Essendon home.
Jockey Luke Currie is hoping to cap off a rollercoaster year by selling his stable Essendon home of 17 years.
Currie and his wife, Sophia, have $1.5-$1.6m price hopes for the four-bedroom house they share with daughters Mia, 4, and Miley, 10 months.
After spending most of 2020 sidelined with serious injuries, the 39-year-old recently returned to the track to achieve “the biggest win of my career”: riding Arcadia Queen to victory in the Mackinnon Stakes.

He also competed in the Melbourne Cup, Cox Plate and Caulfield Cup to round out “a really good spring”.
Currie — who has ridden more than 1000 winners in his career, including legendary mare Makybe Diva — told the Sunday Herald Sun a highlight of living at 2B Thomson Street was being “so close to the main racetracks in Flemington and Moonee Valley”.
He’d also loved being able to stroll over to steakhouse Squires Loft and run along the Maribyrnong River.
“I’m going to miss living here,” he said, noting he and his family planned to move closer to Sophia’s family in Bayside.
CoreLogic records show Currie paid $480,000 for the property in 2003.
He said he had made plenty of improvements since, especially the past five years, including renovating the three bathrooms and the kitchen. The latter now features stone-topped benches and an island breakfast bar, mosaic-tiled splashbacks, and Bosch and Ilve appliances.
Currie also added a deck to the north-facing backyard, overlooking the solar-heated pool, where he and Sophia had entertained friends and family over the years.
“It’s nice sitting out the back in the summer months,” he said.
“I also love sitting in the dining area, reading the paper in the morning before I start my day, with the sun coming through the window.”
The dining space forms part of one of the double-storey home’s two living rooms, both of which have outdoor retreats attached.
Other highlights include the Victorian-inspired facade and the downstairs main bedroom with a spa ensuite.
Frank Dowling Essendon sales manager Anthony Elliott said the property had so far been popular with local families looking to upgrade to “one of the best streets in Essendon”, near sought-after schools including Essendon Keilor College and Lowther Hall Anglican Grammar.
Downsizers were also keen on the home’s “versatile floorplan”, he added.
Its expressions of interest campaign closes December 15.
