Homes with positive energy find favour with Geelong buyers
Tapping into the positive power of energy balance could prove a winning strategy for Geelong homeowners.
TAPPING into the positive power of feng shui could prove a winning strategy for Geelong homeowners seeking to capitalise on good energy flow.
Houses that strike the right balance of chi can attract a premium among a niche segment of Geelong’s property market, particularly buyers of Asian background.
Hayeswinckle, Highton agent Yan Lin said her clients from Hong Kong and mainland China sought out properties with good feng shui.

Ms Lin said they were often prepared to pay more for the right house, as they believed it could foster long-term prosperity.
Some advantageous elements, like the desire for natural light and a front door that doesn’t face an intersection, are universally appealing, while others are less obvious.
“Basically for the numbers, you don’t want the number four, because four means death, but six, eight and nine are the perfect numbers,” Ms Lin said.
“Another thing is the height, you don’t want a lower house in the street because everything will go in there.”
Feng shui-driven buyers also typically avoid houses where the front and back doors are aligned, where staircases face the front door and bedrooms are positioned over garages.
A sense of balance attracted Drysdale’s Heather Hunter to her 15ha lifestyle property, which she and her husband recently listed for sale with Charles Stewart, Geelong agent Andrew Rice.
Ms Hunter hopes the favourable positioning of her Federation-inspired homestead, with 180-degree views across to Arthur’s Seat and the Melbourne skyline, will help win over a new buyer for 425 Murradoc Rd, Drysdale.
“We were coming from Melbourne and were trying to find a house that didn’t have a front door facing a power pole,” she said.
“We looked at this house and it was well balanced … we were ideally looking for a house like this because I knew how much luck it can bring.”
Lara feng shui practitioner Emily Hruska, who runs Fire Lotus Feng Shui, said every person had their own energy which must be factored into the balance.
“You can find a house that is really successful for one family and then doesn’t align with another family,” Ms Hruska said.
“There are houses we call illness houses or divorce houses but if you get a feng shui consultation we can work with anything you have got.”
She said it was fundamental to balance the five elements of earth, water, fire, wood and metal but this could be achieved by something as simple as adding a fish tank to balance out the fire element in a room.
