A lifelong passion for collecting Art Deco pieces inspired the Great Gatsby-esque restoration of a Newcomb home that oozes Hollywood glamour.
Walking through the front door of 2 Charles St is like being transported to a 1930s movie set, right down to the club chairs with built-in chrome ashtrays.
The vendors scoured the globe for lavish antique fittings befitting their painstaking restoration of the three-bedroom house.

A Noverdy Art Deco light from Germany makes a statement in the entrance hall, while original wall scones from France and opulent gold cornices feature in the main living room.
Even the new kitchen winds back the clock, with custom two-tone cabinetry and curves, of course, dressed with restored Art Deco handles.
With plans to start afresh in the country, the vendors are selling their pride and joy through McGrath, Geelong agent Georgie Shaw for $840,000 to $900,000.
Ms Shaw said they had left no stone unturned in customising every feature of the house to celebrate its original character and their love of all things Art Deco.
This extends to the bathroom, where a Lalique-inspired glass etched shower screen features a 1930s water nymph.
“The whole house has got Hollywood glam … it’s so exceptional with every little detail they have done,” Ms Shaw said.
“The grills on the windows have all been custom done by a steelmaker, the portico they have done in the sunray pattern and the double doors that go into loungeroom and it’s all a nod to the original pattern of the Art Deco era.
“They have been Art Deco collectors for their whole life – everything is original antiques.”
Hardwood timber floors, restored pelmets and sash windows and beautiful geometric ceiling roses feature in the formal lounge and dining rooms at the front of the house.
The central kitchen is a masterclass is blending old and new, with a large Capital American oven, retro green and cream colour scheme and servery window linking to the open-plan living room at the rear.
Each of the three bedrooms have built-in wardrobes, pendant lights and intricate ceiling roses.
The Art Deco aesthetic continues outside, where sculptural pencil pines line the 594sq m property’s driveway.
Ms Shaw said the house was attracting Melbourne buyers, who could expect to pay three times as much for something equivalent in the capital.
“The people that have come through have appreciated it, they have understood that it’s an Art Deco home and the work and the care that has gone into it,” she said.
“It will be a very specific buyer and they will see the value it in it.”
