Geelong West ‘unicorn’ to test auction interest
A Victorian era residence in Geelong West is selling for the first time since a high-end renovation substantially upsized its family credentials.
A substantial five-bedroom Geelong West home dubbed a real estate “unicorn” is going to auction this weekend with interest from several groups.
The double-fronted Victorian era house at 42 Candover St is a rarity in the inner city suburb, offering five bedrooms, multiple living zones and rear access to off-street parking on a 545sq m block that’s a stone’s throw from the Pakington St village.

Jellis Craig Geelong agent Marcus Falconer has listed the high-end family home with price expectations from $1.85m to $1.95m ahead of an auction at 11am on Saturday.
The house is selling for the first time since the striking renovation and extension turned it into a double-storey residence designed for entertaining and family lifestyle.
The house in anchored by an expansive living and dining zone where concertina French doors extend the space onto an outdoor terrace in the north-facing backyard.
Remote control awnings create a flexible sheltered outdoor space overlooking lawn areas and leading to a rear garage and workshop.
The kitchen’s wide benches include a breakfast bar, a 900mm Smeg oven and electric cooktop and a garden window splashback that draws a stripe of greenery on a wall featuring a substantial grid of cupboards.
A chandelier accentuates the high ceiling in the room, while stairs lead up to a first floor main bedroom with a retreat, walk-in wardrobe and ensuite.
There are four bedrooms downstairs in the original part of the house, three with fireplaces and built in wardrobes.
The fourth bedroom doubles as a retreat with steps leading to an elevated day bed.
Mr Falconer the fully renovated home had attracted interest from potential buyers.
“All the hard work is done, it has rear access and it’s a substantial renovation, it’s beautiful,” Mr Falconer said.
“It’s a stone’s throw from the village.
“It’s a substantial home that doesn’t get offered much in Geelong West as far as it’s accommodation goes, with multiple living zones and substantial bedrooms. We like to call it a unicorn.”
The property last sold in 2013 for $506,000 prior to the renovation and extension.
